Art and Images: Citing Copyrighted Images

This guide will help you find general information about Art, Art history, and its relationship to religion. You will also find links to collections of digital images of art through the ages as well as websites offering images for your use.

Elements of a Proper Citation

The following pieces of information should be included in the citation of copyrighted images:

  • Creator name
  • Title
  • Date
  • Repository information (museum, library, or other owning institution)
  • Location
  • Image source (database, website, book, postcard, vendor, etc.)
  • Date accessed
