ENDOWED LECTURES AT LUTHER SEMINARY

Each year, Luther Seminary hosts lectures by renowned scholars who explore theology, Bible, faith and other topics from academic perspectives for the benefit of the seminary community.  All lectures are free and open to the public, and, unless otherwise noted, are held in the Chapel of the Incarnation in the Olson Campus Center.  Archived video recordings of lectures are listed below:

AUS MEMORIAL LECTURESHIP

Established in 1978, the Aus Memorial Lectures focus on evangelism. In memory of George Aus, a prominent evangelist and professor of systematic theology at Luther Seminary from 1939 to 1973.

BURGESS LECTURE SERIES

The Andrew S. Burgess Lecture in Global Mission began in 1991 in an ongoing effort to introduce leading scholars in global mission to the Luther Seminary community. The lecture is made possible by a fund established to honor the life and work of Andrew S. Burgess, former missionary, missionary executive, and professor of missions at Luther Seminary.

FRETHEIM LECTURE

The Terence E. and Faith L. Fretheim Lecture in Biblical Theology was established to provide Luther Seminary and surrounding communities with access to biblical-theological scholarship by prominent biblical scholars and theologians. These lectures offer fresh perspectives on relevant topics, with strong theological focus and attention to the Bible's role in Christians' theological discourse. The lectureship honors the legacy of the late Terry Fretheim and his wife, Faith. Terry and Faith were deeply involved in the life of the seminary during Terry’s 45 years as professor of Old Testament, and Faith continues to be a valued member of the wider Luther Seminary community.

Hein-Fry Lecture

The Hein-Fry Lectures foster original scholarship and enriches theological dialogue throughout the church.

 

RUTLEN LECTURE ON FAITH AND CREATION

The Robert William Ruotsalainen Rutlen and Elizabeth Jane Runn Rutlen Lecture on Faith and Creation is a biannual lecture series designed to examine the intersection between faith and eco-justice. David Rutlen, a member of the seminary’s board of directors, established the series to honor his family’s passion for environmental justice and God’s creation.

WORD AND WORLD LECTURE

The Word & World lectures focus on topics important to Christian ministry in today's world. The lectures are sponsored by Word & World, a scholarly theological journal published by Luther Seminary.
