Many academic eBook providers, like EBSCO eBooks and Proquest eBook Central, require readers to install Adobe Digital Edition for desktop reading. For reading on mobile devices, you may need to download a general eBook app like Bluefire Reader for Proquest eBook Central. Bluefire Reader requires an Adobe Digital ID.

Downloading EBSCO eBooks

What you will need

To check out and download an EBSCO eBook you will need the following:

  1. A My EBSCOhost account (Click on Sign In (in EBSCOhost) to create an account)
  2. Adobe Digital Editions installed on your computer

Steps to download an eBook for offline viewing

  1. Click the download link for the ebook you wish to download.

      2.  At this point, if you are not logged in to your EBSCOhost account, you will be prompted to do so.


      3.  Select check-out period from the drop-down menu and click the Checkout & Download button

 


   4.  Select Open with (Adobe Digital Editiions) or Save File from the resulting dialog box.

 

To Return a Book

Can I check-in my EBSCO eBook or Audiobook before the end of the checkout period?

Downloaded eBooks can be checked-in before the end of the checkout period using Adobe Digital Editions. Audiobooks cannot be checked-in before the end of the checkout period at this time. Audiobooks files can be transferred to various devices throughout the duration of the checkout period, and there is no way to ensure that the file is removed from these devices before it ends.

To check-in an eBook before the checkout period has expired:

  1. Open Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.
  2. On the Library View screen of Adobe Digital Editions, hold your pointer over the eBook you would like to check-in and click the arrow in the top left corner.
  3. Click Return Borrowed Item.
  4. Click the Return button to confirm you would like to return the eBook.
  5. The eBook is checked in and removed from your Library View screen and is available to other patrons.

 For users that have upgraded to Adobe Digital Editions 2.0

To check-in an eBook before the checkout period has expired:

  1. Open Adobe Digital Editions on your computer.
  2. On the Bookshelfs screen of Adobe Digital Editions, right-click the cover of the eBook you would like to check-in and select Return Borrowed Item.
  3. Click the Return button to confirm you would like to return the eBook.
  4. The eBook is checked in and removed from your Bookshelves view screen and is available to other patrons.
